Picture this: you’ve been searching the web for your “Dream Caribbean Vacation Destination” and just so happened to stumble across the jewel known as Belize. Known for its white sand beaches, lush jungles, world-class diving, savoury cuisine and friendly people, you make up your mind that this is the place you want to visit for the New Year. The only issue, you have no idea where to begin or how to plan your trip there.
Planning your “Dream Trip” may seem like a daunting task but don’t worry, the Maya Travel Team is here to help. Just to be clear, not all of them are easy and some will require sacrifices. The key is to keep moving forward and checking items off the list; before you know it, you’ll be boarding your flight to Belize.
Here are 5 ways to make your Belize Travel Dreams come true this year:
Pick your Destination
This task is fairly simple; all you need to do is ask yourself, “What do I want to experience the most on this trip?” From there, you can decide whether you want an island getaway, a jungle adventure, a culture quest, the list can go on. Pick your Date
Choosing when to travel to Belize is always a tricky task, with many popular local events coinciding with what is considered as the “Rainy Season” (June – November). You can learn of some of these events here: Top 5 “Can’t Miss” Belize Events of 2016. Those of you still attending college may want to visit for “Spring Break,” or the “Dry Season” in Belize. If that’s the case, destinations such as San Pedro, Caye Caulker and Placencia are ideal, with just the right blend of day and night-time activities to suit your vacation. Note: Prepare for a few showers here and there, regardless of the season.
Price the Trip
If you’ve been saving (and we hope the answer is a resounding YES), we recommend spending several days (not more than a week), researching airfares, lodging, activities and food costs to get an estimate on what you will spend on your trip. Feel free to add a 20-30% buffer, for any unforeseen expenses that you may have along the way. Note: Keep your travel money stored in a not so obvious and secure place.
Check your Passport
Now that you’ve secured a destination, travel date and priced your trip, make sure that your passport is valid for no less than six months after the intended period of stay in Belize. If it’s not, renew it (you don’t want to have an “Oops” moment at the airport). Note: Make copies of your important documents before traveling in the event they are misplaced.
See your Doctor
You’re almost there but there’s just one more thing left to do, make an appointment with your doctor before your trip and figure out which immunizations, if any, you’ll need. Also, make a list of bugs, plants and food that you are/ may be allergic to. Then, do some research on those which you may most likely find at your destination so you can travel prepared. Note: It’s useful to know where the nearest local clinic, hospital or doctor is located in case of an emergency.
