Destination Dangriga




Dangriga is the administrative town of the Stann Creek District which is known as the Citrus and Banana capital of Belize.


Shrimp farming is popular in this area due to its low swamp areas along the sea. This is a good destination to get a closer look at one of the most interesting of Belizean cultures, the Garinagu. The people of Dangriga are mainly Garifunas a mixture of Carib Indians and Africans. They have their own dialect and typical dress code. Recently their music has become popular and can be heard at the local discos. Punta their cultural dance has also become popular; it is a dance that requires a lot of hip movement.


Dangriga is also home of Belize's world famous hot sauce "Marie Sharp Hot Sauce". It is also a jumping point for divers and fishermen reroute to the southern cayes. Those wanting to visit the world's only Jaguar Preserve must visit Dangriga. Other places to visit include Hopkins and Sitee River. You can find high quality resort services in these areas.
