8 Ways to Stay Healthy While Traveling

 

Whether you're traveling Belize or any other country for that matter, it's always good practice to keep a healthy routine. By taking good care of yourself, you'll be energized and will better appreciate the experiences you encounter along the way. From the busy city employee to the seasoned traveler, follow these 8 ways to stay healthy while traveling and you'll be able to have more fun and stay in shape while away from home.

 

  1. Wash Your Hands

 

One of the most important things that anybody can do to protect their health. Spend 20 seconds washing including under the nail beds.

 

  1. Visit a Travel Clinic

 

If you’re traveling to a developing country, it is recommended to visit a clinic 4-6 weeks prior to a trip to receive inoculations, immunizations, etc.

 

  1. Carry a Medical Kit 

 

Pack what you use on a regular basis such as prescriptions in a carry-on bag. Medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Immodium, Neosporin, First Aid, Band-Aids, Gauze Pads, Hydrogen Peroxide and Medical Tape are a few essentials.

 

  1. Prevent Bug Bites 

 

Use insect repellent and clothing that provides sufficient coverage of the body; especially in dense jungle areas.

 

  1. Get Enough Sleep 

 

Sleep allows the body to maintain a healthy immune system so try your best to get some rest. Carry a pair of noise cancelling headphones or plugs, a sleep mask or your favorite music to aid in relaxing.

 

  1. Stay Hydrated 

 

If you’re going to be active while traveling, you will require more liquid than your average daily consumption. Bottled water and foods such as watermelon and cucumbers which contain high water content are great when on-the-go.

 

  1. Exercise 

 

Keep a healthy fitness routine both at home and abroad. If your hotel does not have a gym, go for a run and do some sightseeing nearby or even try some yoga.

 

  1. Use Common Sense


Keep the typical safeguards that you would have for yourself at home when traveling. Don’t over think your trip; you may be visiting a foreign place but you’re also there to enjoy the experience.
